Singapore - II
The return flight from Spain (which I will of Spain in another post) also stopped over in Singapore. This time my plan was to go wherever your feet take me, and Nitin, co-worker who is spending some months in Singapore. The flight back was as good as going to Spain, but was filled with hyperactive children and weeping that made it difficult to take a nap in the 12-hour flight from Milan, where the plane stopped an hour to take on passengers, and Singapore . But hey, with concentration and thinking of those martial arts movies where the good get some rest even if all are fighting and screaming, I got to sleep a few hours.
already in Singapore, after a shower in his ultramodern airport, I meet with Nitin, waiting for me in the Arrivals Hall. The idea is to go to one of the islands surrounding the main island of Singapore. So we took the metro and the bus to arrive, an hour later, the berth. There are several small boats that look like fishing, but soon discover that one of them is to take us to Pulau Ubin island. But we arrived a little late, the boat is full, and we have to wait for the next. While we wait for more people arrive, and then something amazing. Next comes the master of the ship and pick people who will board the boat, and we are not among them. It seems that in this part of Singapore there are no queues. Protest, but the captain speaks Malay and makes us understand we have to wait for the next ship. And we imagine we can expect there in the dock all day, waiting for the captain we choose, and even worse, perhaps for the return journey we have to wait even more. We do not feel like such a proposition, so we gave up going to the island and simply take a stroll along the seashore. It is a calm sea, no waves, so different Australian sea. The day, every day hot as Singapore.
Then we are dedicated to singaporeanos favorite activity, which is eating. We go to a nearby building that is filled with food stalls. There are hardly any signs in English and Malay dishes are food and Chinese dishes that do not know anything. At the end I'll play it safe and ask the same thing Nitin, Singapore-style chicken, delicious. And best of all, the price of the meal was $ 4 singaporeanos, which at current exchange rates is like 2 euros. And Nitin told me that many people lived in houses without kitchen and out to lunch and dinner daily, the food is so cheap and good that it's not worth cooking. Nitin
the end brings me to center in Singapore and said goodbye. Singapore is a cosmopolitan country. In some ways it reminds me of Switzerland. As Switzerland is a prosperous center of commerce and finance, clean and safe, with four national languages. Just missing the mountains and cows. I have a front
Chinese market, one side is the Indian district, and behind the Muslim Quarter. Entered the Chinese market, where of course the noise queen and all are colorful and inexpensive products made in China, but there is nothing I like. I get to Sim Lim Square, a building dedicated to trade in electronics and I am enjoying watching binoculars than I are very old. The clerk was aware of my attention and tells me the price: $ 120 singaporeanos. I'm not convinced the product, I want something smaller and portable. And he sees that I am not interested in low price: $ 100. I leave the binoculars at the counter, and then I said 80. I am still interested, look at other binoculars, and none interested me, so I'm leaving. And out tells me that 50 ... that if I go there I will pay it for me to take them.
I go into another shop where they do have the binoculars that interest me, but worth $ 100. I pretend I'm not interested to see if I can get a lower price, and sure, I'll stoop to 85. But I can not pretend a lot and it shows that really do interest me, so I did not lower the price. I must say that these binoculars seem of better quality than the other, which in the end I stayed with them. I keep thinking that maybe if I do not really want the price would have fallen, but hey, one who was not born to act.
feet take me to the Indian neighborhood. Place is full of exotic scents for me, but I have no hunger, or stomach is upset with the time difference with Spain. What time is it in Spain? Best not to think.
I come to the Muslim quarter, which I find strangely familiar. And is that after all, most English people have their Islamic touch. These chaotic and narrow streets that are common in the English towns, also appear in this neighborhood. The difference is that here is a functional mosque. It is planned to visit a mosque, but agrees it's Friday, a day of prayer and the mosque is closed to unbelievers. I
day in a Muslim restaurant, where I serve more delicious food accompanied by sweet mint tea. The tables are large and share mine with a family of people happy and talkative. Definitely, the singaporeanos are pleasant people who like good food.
is time to return to the airport. I am very tired of so much bustle, heat, and little sleep. The aircraft is the Airbus 390, the big two-story. I'm on the floor above, and the seat is even more spacious. As I travel on Singapore Airlines improve the service! I'm so full and so tired I do not know they serve dinner, and the truth is that what they offered was very good.
I fall asleep right away, to wake up after a few minutes. It turns out that one of the families with hyperactive children, the other is also on this flight, and this time right in the front seat! Nochecita fine waiting for me.
